A PRIMARY school pupil showcased her artistic flair as she scooped the top prize in a logo competition.
Rachel Gamble, nine, a pupils at Oliver Tomkins Junior School designed a logo to be stitched on to uniforms at a new school in Burkina Faso in west Africa.
All the pupils at the West Swindon school competed in the contest, with five designs from the eight classes being shortlisted.
Ros Hollands from Oliver Tomkins Junior School said: “Rachel, who is in Year 4, was the eventual winner chosen by Joany Bazemo from the African town.
“The runners up were Cameron Bovell and Chloe Thompson, both in Year 6.’’ Money was raised for the school at this year’s Lent Appeal and at various events, including bad hair days, sporty events and sponsored silences.
It all contributed to the £424.87 raised for the uniforms which will sport Rachel’s logo.
Joany received the cheque from Rachel and in return presented the school with a framed map of Burkina Faso and an African painting for the classroom.
Ros said: “During special worship the children enjoyed listening to their visitor and seeing pictures of the new school.”
