There’s an ancient Chinese proverb that goes something along the lines of ‘Man will stand with mouth open for very long time before roast duck fly in’.
But you don’t need to tell Beatbullyz that, as their mouths have been firmly clamped shut over the last few years while they’ve been busy establishing themselves as one of the hardest working bands in Swindon, and now it looks like they’re finally getting their well-deserved, erm, roast duck.
Over the last few months they’ve supported two major urban names on separate UK tours, in the form of N-Dubz and Example, recorded a live session for BBC Radio 1 at the legendary Maida Vale studios (which has seen sessions from hundreds of artists over the years, including The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix) and found themselves gaining the support of numerous high-profile Radio 1 DJs, such as Fearne Cotton and Scott Mills.
You only have to listen to upcoming single Skills to see why people are starting to sit up and take notice.
It’s a high-octane club banger with one of the fattest bass lines to come out of Swindon for a very long time.
Other tracks such as Pieces and Golden City really show off singer and producer Bully’s knack for penning a catchy melody, backed up by an irresistible combination of soaring strings and lyricist Bozo’s optimistic rapping.
If you want to hear them for yourself and see what all the fuss is about, debut single Skills is released on Sunday, and they will be marking its release with a launch party at Liquid nightclub in Havelock Square on Tuesday next week.
