LIVE action Pac-Man games will be played in Swindon’s town centre tomorrow.
The extravaganza has been arranged to coincide with the 30th birthday of the classic computer game and its spherical yellow, ghost-dodging hero.
The fun is one of three celebratory events organised by the Museum of Computing in Theatre Square.
The free ‘Human Pac-Man’ gathering will take place at Wharf Green from 11am to 3pm, with all welcome to have a go at controlling people dressed as Pac-Man and his fellow game characters.
Meanwhile, the original version of Pac-Man will be played on the Big Screen, and the museum itself will be hosting a mini exhibition and special talk, as well as offering visitors the chance to play the game on old-school systems such as the Atari 2600 and Sega Master System.
Museum curator Simon Webb said: “Pac-Man is the world’s most widely recognised games character.
“We couldn’t let this day pass without celebrating the 30th anniversary of this groundbreaking game, so we’re doing it in style.”
Museum volunteer Andy Romain said: “Pac-Man was my first introduction to cocktail cabinet gaming – sitting with a pint of coke and being drawn into the neon-like maze world of this little yellow iconic character. Then I was thrilled when I was given a Grandstand handheld version of the game.”
The museum will be open from 9.30am to 5pm. Admission is £7 for a family ticket, £3.50 for adults, £3 for students and concessions, £2.50 children age six to 15 and nothing for under-fives. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
