RESIDENTS can get fit with a Swindon-based walking group this weekend.

The North East Wiltshire Ramblers group is holding a Get Walking Day with two walking opportunities in or near Swindon.

There is a five-mile walk starting at the Smallgrain Picnic Site near Devizes,at 2pm tomorrow, which explores the wildlife on a chalk downland nature reserve and visits Calstone Wellington church.

The Smallgrain Picnic Site is signposted off the A361 opposite the turning to Bishops Cannings.

Lifts are possible from Swindon by meeting just off the Pipers Roundabout in Marlborough Road at 1.30pm.

Walkers should take a drink and snack.

A shorter walk starts at 2pm on Sunday at the Shaw Country Park, signposted off Mead Way, Sparcells.

The three-mile walk is led by David Trease, who is contactable on 01793 616346.

It will explore the country park and also visit Peatmoor Lagoon.

The ramblers run a series of guided walks every weekend, ranging from three to 16 miles in length.

A year’s membership of the North East Wiltshire Ramblers will cost only £1 for people using application forms available on walks this weekend.
