ONE DIE-HARD Swindon Town fan and his wife are planning to sneak out of their romantic weekend getaway intended to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary to take in Town’s match at Wembley.
Vito and Veronica Zarola, from Shaw, said that instead of losing out on their £500 deposit on their Murder Mystery Weekend in Windsor they have decided to make their way to Wembley and watch Town before sneaking back into the weekend event like nothing ever happened.
Vito, 51, said although he did think his wife would kill him for even suggesting the idea he said he ‘played on her emotions’ to convince her that his plan would work.
“I looked at the schedule and there was a window when couples were supposed to spend time together and get massages,” said the Barclay’s manager. “Well this will be time well-spent I can assure you of that.
“I went to the last two Wembley matches and it was like nothing I have ever seen before, grown men were crying and the euphoria of almost 40,000 Swindon fans is something I could never miss.
“Veronica is not going to like me saying this but I would have foregone the £500, hopefully our little plan will work out though.
“She has been great throughout the whole thing though, I’ve got to say fair play to her.”
Vito added that he has been a supporter for 40-years since his father took him to the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1970 when Swindon beat Juventus 4-0.
He added: “I think my dad thought I was going to fall in love with Juventus, but instead Swindon Town captured me and I have been a fan ever since.”
Veronica who will be heading to St Omer in France with Vito after the murder mystery event, said she knew Vito would be checking his phone “every five-minutes” anyway so she decided to give him “the best anniversary gift of all time”.
About the prospect of losing the match Vito said: “Well Swindon has won all three trips to Wembley so history is with us.
“Let’s just say I will be merry win or lose.”
