A TEENAGER from Swindon is lucky to be alive after colliding with another motorcyclist who died of his injuries.

The 19-year-old remains in intensive care after the crash on the A4361 near Berwick Bassett, south of Wroughton, on Sunday afternoon.

A 60-year-old man, from Calne, riding the other motorcycle, died at the scene.

He was one of two Wiltshire men who died in motorcycle accidents last weekend.

A 63-year-old man, from Swindon, died in hospital after a collision with a Ford Mondeo in Burford on Sunday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to both incidents.

The 19-year-old, from the Swindon area, was travelling southwards on the A4361 between Wroughton and Avebury on a white Honda.

The accident happened half a mile before the Berwick Bassett junction, on Sunday shortly after 2.20pm.

PC Lucy Deakin, of the serious collision team at Avebury, said that while negotiating a sharp right-hand bend, the white Honda collided head on with a green Honda motorcycle, belonging to the 60-year-old man.

The 19-year-old was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital, near Bristol, where he remains in intensive care. His family is understood to be with him.

Sgt Craig Hardy, of Wiltshire police’s serious collision investigation team, said: “He has got serious injuries, we believe not at this stage life-threatening.”

Police are looking for further witnesses, particularly the driver of a light-coloured BMW car, which may have been overtaken by a motorcycle prior to the collision.

It involved the victim’s silver Kawasaki 600 motorcycle and a red Ford Mondeo.

The 63-year-old Swindon motorcyclist was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, where he died later that afternoon.

Police confirmed that no-one has been arrested in relation to the crash and the victim's relatives have been informed.

The coroner for Oxfordshire said the man’s identity would not be released until this afternoon.
