MEMBERS of the Coldstream Guards Regiment have presented a memorial plaque to the people of Wootton Bassett.
The Bristol Branch of the guards were so touched by the way the town handled repatriations, it was decided to present them with a plaque to hang in the memorial hall.
A spokesman for the group said: “Our secretary Mr Ron Lewis who attended the repatriation of Christopher King, one of the first Coldstreamers to lose his life in Afghanistan, was so touched with the reverence that Wootton Bassett gave to that day that he made up his mind to do something for you.
“The Coldstream Guards are the oldest foot regiment in the British Army. We hold the most battle honours and Victoria Crosses.
“Our motto, Null Secundus, means second to none and that’s how we see Wootton Bassett and what you and your people do here for our fallen and their families.”
