The newly-crowned Miss Swindon, Emma-Jayne Salter, is getting behind the Town squad as they head off to Wembley but the beauty queen believes it is the taking part in any sport that really matters.
Emma-Jayne, 18, a student from Rodbourne said: “They have done really, really well. I wish them all good luck but no matter what the outcome they should just have fun and enjoy it.’’ Emma-Jayne and Hannah Golding, who was runner-up in the Miss Wiltshire competition, visited the County Ground yesterday to cheer the boys on, and try out all the latest Swindon Town merchandise.
Both girls are Swindon Town supporters and have been to matches, although Hannah admits that she is also a huge Liverpool fan.
Hannah, 21, from Liden, says she does not have a favourite player but admits that she checks out their legs while they are running around the pitch.
Her advice for the game against Millwall is simple: “Play your hearts out,’’ she said.
“We are all rooting for them and want them to bring something home for that celebration afterwards.’’ She says she will be in the Fleet Street sports bar, TP’s, watching the footie.
“I’ll be out celebrating if they win with all the other Swindon Town supporters,’’ she said.
Emma-Jayne scooped her title at a glittering fully choreographed show at Liquid & Envy nightclub in Havelock Square.
She will now compete in the semi-finals of the Miss England competition.
Hannah also scooped the Miss Popularity title which qualifies her to go on a national internet vote with a prize of a place in the Miss England semi final.
Hannah works in the Beehive Club after-school play centre, and took her crown in to show the children.
She said: “They saw me in the Adver and wanted to try on the crown.’’ The beauty queens did not know each other before the contest but have now become close friends even going on a Date Night in aid of charity. The girls auctioned a date – a meal at Mario’s Sicilian restaurant – in aid of the Variety Club Children’s Charity.
Emma-Jayne said: “People had to bid for us. It was good fun but one of the guys said he was going to the bar and ran home, too intimidated or overwhelmed.’’ Both girls are sporty and keen to aid charity.
Emma-Jayne is doing a skydive for charity and Hannah is competing in a 10k running event in July.
