TOWN fans based in countries all over the planet will be watching with baited breath at home and away.

The Adver offices have been flooded with messages of goodluck from fans in countless countries around the globe.

A selection of the most compelling include Ashley Morrison, who played cricket for Wiltshire 20 years ago, and now works as part of the Fox Sports commentary team for the Hyundai A League, in Perth.

The Purton-lad said he would be watching the match with a number of other expatriates in a livingroom his mates “converted into the County Ground”.

Ashley said: “The Hyundai A League is like the Premier League, in England, we have quite a few Swindon lads over here and we will all be watching it together.

“Dave Mitchell, who played in the 1993 play-off final for Swindon, is currently the manager of the Perth Glory, who just signed Robbie Fowler.

“Charlie Comyn Platt who played for Swindon between 2005 and 2007 is also playing here.

“Alan Cock, who played cricket for Swindon GWR, is here as well and has erected a huge replica of the County Ground’s Rolex clock in his living room so we don’t get homesick.

“It is terrible being away from home for this kind of match, all we want to do is return – but coming home just wasn’t possible.”

Another fan is flying back from Canada for the playoff final.

Dean Smolicz, a former ball boy at the County Ground, is returning to Swindon from Banff where he works as a ski-instructor.

He said: “I catch every Swindon Town game through the internet.

“The first game my parents ever brought me to was the playoff against Leicester, I am a fanatical fan.”

One former Adver journalist contacted the paper from Blackheath, in New South Wales, Australia and said that throughout all the years following Swindon Town “he never lost hope”.

John Huston, who worked for the paper during a golden time for Town, 1967 and 1969, said he will be watching from the other side of the world.

He said: “Come on you guys do it for an Aussie.”

And finally Mike Fowler, who lives in La Marina, Spain, said he watched the first playoff match against Charlton in the same pub he where he will watch the final playoff match.

He said: “I will be bringing along my framed programme and first day cover of the 1969 Arsenal match for good luck.”
