SWINDON pupils went green for the day to remember other children less lucky than themselves.

Four primary schools and two secondary schools across Swindon took part in the NSPCC’s Green Gear event to raise vital funds for the children’s charity.

They held a non-uniform day and each donated £1 to the charity for the privilege of ditching their school uniforms for the day.

However, the 3,500 pupils also dressed in green in honour of the NSPCC’s signature colour.

Organisers are hoping they have raised about £3,000. The schools taking part were Lethbridge, Robert le Kyng, St Mary’s Catholic and Lawn primary schools, along with Commonweal and Nova Hreod secondary schools.

NSPCC volunteer Caroline Morgan said: “I would just like to say a very sincere thank you to all the schools involved.

“The kids all looked great and made a lot of effort.

“We are hoping to repeat this event next year and would love to turn Swindon totally green and make it even bigger than this year’s.

“It’s a great way to fundraise and, just as importantly, to raise awareness of the NSPCC.”

Swindon has two family centres that help children and families in the town and are run with funds from the NSPCC.

Money raised also goes towards Childline, a free, confidential helpline for children and young people.
