ONE of the biggest names in the music industry will perform at the Oasis Leisure Centre later this autumn.
Liam Gallagher, the former lead singer with Oasis, is even rumoured to have named his old band after the venue after seeing a poster with it on in the ‘90s.
The singer will play at the Swindon Council-owned centre in November with his new band Beady Eye, as part of a string of shows.
The gig will see him belting out songs from his new band’s debut album Different Gear, Still Speeding, on November 15.
When brother Noel left Oasis in August 2009, Liam vowed to continue making music with the other members and the group’s performance in the town is set to sell out within minutes.
They released their album in February, which went gold on release. They also played a number of festivals culminating in a headline appearance at the NME/Radio 1 tent at last weekend’s Reading and Leeds Festival.
Next week Liam, Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock will be on their travels again, playing in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, Abu Dhabi, Europe and South America, before returning for five UK dates, including Swindon.
Suren Siva, 22, who lives in the town centre, said: “It is good to have a band of their stature in Swindon. We need more good acts coming to the town, we usually get missed out.
“I will definitely be trying to get a ticket if I can.”
Oasis fan Robert Cole, 23, of Old Town, said: “It’s brilliant that they are coming to Swindon. They’re a relatively new band but everyone knows who Liam Gallagher is, so I am sure a lot of people will want to go.
“To have a former member of Oasis performing at the Oasis Centre – it’s like it’s planned.”
Tickets for the gig go on sale tomorrow at 9am and are £27.50 plus a £2.50 booking fee. A maximum of four can be bought per person. Call 01793 445401.
