CHILDREN sold rice after school yesterday to help Malawi children.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School took part in the 90kg rice challenge to help farmers in Malawi, who need to sell 90kg of rice to send one child to secondary school for a year.
Julie Clarke, community co-ordinator at the the Ferndale school, said: “They understand the need to help other children from countries such as Malawi, who do not have free education as they do here. I am overwhelmed by their eagerness and dedication to help others who have much less.
Ten-year-old Tomasz said: “I am really proud of what we are doing to sell the rice to let children in Malawi have the same chances as we get. I have to learn that we take for granted some of the things we have for granted like clean water.”
