WITH just two months left to reach his goal of £10,000 for Prospect Hospice, Steve Jordan is organising his final fundraising events.
Steve, 29, of North Swindon, set himself the challenge of raising £10,000 in one year for the Hospice and has already held a number of fundraising events, including a crazy netball tournament and a golf day.
He originally aimed to raise £10,000 by the end of 2011, but later decided to aim for May 14 this year – exactly a year after he held his first fundraiser.
After taking a few months off from his campaign to plan the next events, Steve hopes the remaining three fundraisers will be a success. The first is a golf day on April 19 at Carswell Golf and Country Club, with entry slashed from £260 per team last year to £195.
On April 25 there will be a quiz night at the County Ground for teams of up to eight people, with entry costing £5 per person.
Back by popular demand after a successful day last year, another crazy netball tournament will be held on April 28 at Dorcan, involving every player in the team playing outside their normal positions.
Steve said: “I said I wasn’t going to cram it all in, but I want to make sure that if we are running out of time to raise the money we can have a last-ditch attempt to reach the target.
“I am feeling quietly confident but I am not going to say I think we will smash it – I think we are about halfway there at the moment. We have held a netball tournament, golf day and music night so far but I had to take a bit of a break last year because I had a lot going on with work.”
Steve will also complete a skydive in two weeks after it was cancelled on three separate occasions.
“I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
“I’ve absolutely loved the year though, it isn’t one of those things that you can do every minute of the day, but it is great to know you are giving something back to the hospice because you never know when you might need their services. Although that is a bleak outlook, that’s life.
“I could need them next week and if people aren’t raising money for them, they won’t be there.”
