TOWN fans involved in disorder before and after Swindon’s derby clash with bitter rivals Oxford United could face lifetime bans, the club have confirmed.

Three fans on a Swindon Town supporters’ bus were among those arrested during disorder before and after Saturday’s match, which ended 2-0 to the home side.

Thames Valley Police confirmed a coach carrying Town fans was damaged before Saturday’s match when a door was forced open just outside the Kassam Stadium, causing the driver to stop.

Some Oxford supporters reportedly tried to reach the vehicle, resulting in the supporters on board causing damage to the bus and throwing debris from it.

After the game, police said one of the buses carrying Swindon supporters from the stadium was stopped by police on the B480 just after 2.30pm, due to damage being caused to the bus and debris being thrown out of the vehicle towards other road users, resulting in several arrests.

The Town fans arrested included a 35-year-old man from London, a 21-year-old man from Melksham and a 17-year-old boy from Calne, who were all held on suspicion of criminal damage in connection with damage caused to a bus belonging to the Oxford Bus Company. They were later bailed until April.

Mark Isaacs, Swindon Town FC stadium manager, said the club would be meeting the police in the aftermath and bans may be considered for those involved, arrested or otherwise.

“I am waiting to get more information from the police,” he said.

“Potentially we will be looking to impose bans and taking action against anybody who did act inappropriately during that game.

“Until I have any more information I cannot comment any further.”

A statement from Thames Valley Police said: “We are continuing to investigate incidents of criminal damage and public order offences in connection with the League Two football match between Oxford United and Swindon at the Kassam Stadium.

“Of the 13 people arrested, eight people were taken into custody at Oxford police station and have since been released on bail until early April. The other five people were de-arrested.”
