A vintage musical fairytale is currently playing at Swindon’s Steam Museum.
Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society present Iolanthe, the story of a bunch of fairies with attitude, who take on the powers of the Victorian House of Lords and win.
The well-loved, wacky tale, full of music and off-the-wall humour, was first produced in 1882 but has lost none of its sparkle.
The story concerns the fairy Iolanthe, who commits the crime of marrying a mortal and is banished to the bottom of a stream – leaving her grieving husband to believe her dead. What neither he nor the fairy queen who banished her knows is that she has given birth to a son.
If you want to find out what happens, you;ll need to see the show.
Iolanthe runs until tomorrow at 7.30pm, with a matinee tomorrow at 2.30pm. Tickets are £12, concessions £11, children £6 from the Information Centre in the Central Library, Steam on 01793 466646, or by phoning Roger or Rita Maisey on 01793 337906.
Carers accompanying wheelchair users are free of charge.
