THE heat was on for budding chefs when they took to the kitchens alongside a Michelin starred chef.
Roger Jones, chef owner of The Harrow in Little Bedwyn, worked with level 3 advanced students to cater for 45 people in the college’s restaurant on Monday.
He was working alongside Ben Reid, who was a student at the college until last year and now works at The Harrow, to teach the students about fine dining.
Roger, who is vice chairman of The Master Chefs of Great Britain, said: “I do a lot of work in London with colleges like Westminster and they have got everything they need.
“Colleges outside London don’t have the chances that London people do so it is really important that we come around to these colleges.”
Roger and Ben showed the students how to make seven courses, which included Torbay crabs and line caught Cornish cod with black pudding and mushy peas.
Hospitality lecturer, Paul Kelly, said: “This is to give the students an insight into fine foods.
“Roger likes to pass on his skills and he has been coming to the college with his demonstrations for about three years now.”
Roger showed the students how to make five of the courses and Ben took over for the other two.
Ben, 19, said: “Doing this course at college got me all the basic skills. I always wanted to go into fine dining, I like the whole concept of it. Roger asked me to come along because I was here last year, it’s a good feeling coming back.”
