WILTSHIRE Council aims to Get Wiltshire Walking by setting up three more walking groups in Marlborough, Malmesbury and Durrington.

There are already 10 hugely successful health walks across the county and the number will increase over the next couple of years. The groups have been set up by the council with the help of volunteers.

The groups meet every week, last about an hour and often end with a cup of tea and a chat. Everyone is welcome, providing they are able to meet the physical demands of the walk.

Rhys Schell, health and physical activity officer at Wiltshire Council, said: “These walks are becoming increasingly popular with more than 400 people in Wiltshire regularly attending them. They are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to improve your health, and are a great way to make new friends and discover new places to walk in your neighbourhood.”

Get Wiltshire Walking is a three-year project, organised by Wiltshire Council and funded by the Big Lottery.

Get Wiltshire Walking is constantly recruiting volunteers to help lead and assist with the walking programme. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer walk leader or to learn more about the walking groups can contact Rosie Golding on 07917599964.

Anyone wishing to join one of the walks can just turn up or contact the walk leader beforehand. The programme is available on wiltshire.gov.uk /getwiltshirewalking.
