A WOMAN who claims she was raped after a night out with friends has said she feared for her life.
Fareed Issa Tariq is accused of two counts of rape and two counts of attempted rape after an incident in the car park of the Weighbridge resturant on Penzance Drive last July.
Tariq, 31, denies all four charges.
The 32-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, claims the sexual attack took place after a night out celebrating a friend’s birthday.
She was walking home with her friend from the Casbah nightclub on John Street, in the early hours of Sunday, July 17, when they were offered a lift home by Tariq. After dropping the friend off, the victim claims that Tariq drove past her house and went to the car park next to the Weighbridge restaurant.
It is alleged that Tariq proceeded to lock the doors of his car and pinned the victim down against her will.
Tariq is alleged to have raped the victim twice before she managed to leave the car and ran back to her home address where her boyfriend called the police.
It is alleged that Tariq first saw the victim when he was in the Sir Daniel Arms pub and then later on the same night he was in the Casbah at the same time and at one stage danced with the victim.
Tariq appeared at Swindon Crown Court yesterday after he went to Gablecross police station on August 4, two days after the Adver ran a front page appeal on the attack.
After a friend had seen his photograph he attended the police station and gave DNA samples to police.
On October 4, the results from the test came back and the DNA results matched the DNA which was found on the victim’s body and underwear.
Yesterday the jury heard the opening statement from prosecutor Fiona Elder and then watched the video interview of the victim taken by police on the same day of the alleged attack.
The victim, who broke down in tears on a number of occasions during the interview ,said she feared for her life.
She said: “We drove past the street where I should have got off but he didn’t stop and he continued driving.
“I wanted to get out but he didn’t let me, he locked the doors.
“Then he started grabbing me, he went to kiss me.
“He wanted to have sex with me, I was crying and wanting him to stop.
“I was scared that I would not be able to get out and he would kill me.
“Later he apologised, he was afraid or scared I don’t know. I think I opened the door and I ran away and I was crying.”
The trial continues.
