SWINDON Town’s travelling army is set to descend on the capital this weekend as local firms prepare to transport them by the busload.

Thousands of fans will be making the trip to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley by coach, with SAS Travel and Hatts coaches selling out on all spaces.

More than 2,500 people are expected to set off early in the morning from 54 coaches, laid on by South Marston-based firm Barnes, outside the County Ground, while 18 coaches, provided by Hatts, will pick up a further 1,000 Reds from the surrounding area.

The Robins will have an estimated 30,000 voices cheering them on when they take on League One Chesterfield at 2pm on Sunday.

Many are expected to take the train, too, and First Great Western announced they will run five extra train services from Swindon to Paddington on March 25.

Three services will run, with 8.56am, 9.45am and 10.16am services, while two extra trains will depart from Paddington at 6pm and either 5pm or 7pm depending on whether the game goes to extra time or penalties.

Nigel Bennett, spokesman for the Swindon Town Supporters’ Club, advised those getting coaches from the County Ground to allow plenty of time.

He said: “Don't forget that the clocks go forward this weekend and allow yourselves plenty of time as we require all coaches to be ready for 8.30am departure.

“There will not be any car parking available at the County Ground as it will need to be kept clear to enable the coaches to park up.

“Let’s hope for a win so the return trip will be okay.”
