A MAN who evaded police in a nine-mile car chase suffered a leg injury as officers tried to stop him fleeing on foot.
The 30-year-old man, of Devizes, raced away from police while travelling along the A4361 near Winterbourne Bassett at around 10am this morning and the police helicopter was deployed to track his movements.
Just 13 minutes later the chase came to an abrupt end as the man turned down a dead end in Burghley Close, Walcot, and attempted to get out of the car.
Officers tailing him had pulled alongside his Toyota Celica and blocked him from escaping.
Paramedics were called and he was taken to Great Western Hospital with a minor leg injury.
Eyewitness Sue Stephens said: "I just heard the screaming of the brakes and the sirens. When I looked out police were everywhere - it was like a swarm of bees."
