TALENTED musicians have been hitting all the right notes for audiences at the Swindon Music Festival this week.

Singers, guitarists and pianists are just some of the performers who have taken part in the 103rd festival so far with adjudicators Andrew Hanford and Roy Abbey.

There are still three days left and the festival’s vice chairwoman, Sheila Marcer, said the standard has been high.

“The entries have been slightly down this year but the standard is still high.

“Both adjudicators have said what a high standard there is in Swindon. There is a lot of talent and excellent teaching going on,” she said.

The Grand Concert, including the Senior Vocal Championship and the Supreme Championship, will take place on Saturday at 6.30pm with the winner walking away with the Stuart MacPherson trophy.

“I think it will be excellent. The adults’ vocal final championship before the actual main finale is a high standard,” she said.

The festival, which is sponsored by Nationwide, started with singing in Christ Church on Friday, with instrumental pieces, guitar and piano at the Arts Centre on Saturday, as well as sessions throughout the week.

Penelope Price Jones will be taking over as adjudicator from today.

Chairman, Geoff Walters, said: “ It is such a special week and those that get involved really do enjoy it.

“There are so many good classes going on in the day we would love people just to come along and enjoy them.”

“Anybody can come at any time, they are very welcome. I think a lot of people would really enjoy it.”

Entry to the day sessions is £1 and evening sessions are £2 except for evening sessions on March 23 and 24 which are £4. Visit swindonmusicfestival.co.uk for details.
