BUDDING football stars in Africa are buzzing with excitement after wearing kit donated to them by a local junior club.

Wanborough Junior Football Club, nicknamed the Wasps, has donated their previous season’s football kit – including jackets, jumpers, shirts, shorts and boots– to charity Educate the Kids.

The charity runs education programmes in Africa and the kit went to every pupil at the Jolaurabi School in Mombasa, Kenya.

Lorna Goodwin, who manages and coaches the girl’s team, handed over the kit to Sue Stevens, from Educate the Kids.

She recently received pictures of the Kenyan school’s football team proudly wearing the Wasps crest.

She said: “It is brilliant that the kit can be recycled and be beneficial to children who have so very little in life.

“We replaced the old kit with new jackets, shirts and shorts.

“We’ve got a squad of 20, so there was more than enough for a whole football team.

“It’s a charity I really support and I’m aware the children out there play in bare feet so they don’t ruin their shoes – that’s why we also got the players to donate their old boots.

“It’s brilliant to see them wearing our logo and knowing they will wear it with pride. They all look so happy in the pictures.

“It’s nice to see where it’s gone, too, and I’ve shown the pictures to team. They are really pleased.”

Wanborough Club chairman, Ray Pethick, said: “We are pleased to donate our previously used kit so it can be put to such good use for the Jolaurabi School.

“Hopefully, this will encourage more children, both boys and girls, to take up football.”

Sue Stevens said “We are very grateful to Wanborough Wasps for the donation of so much really good football kit, and every child at Jolaurabi School were given an item of clothing”
