BARRIE HUDSON previews a sell-out show from a comedian who can seemingly do nothing wrong

RHOD Gilbert returns to the Wyvern Theatre for another sellout show tomorrow.

The fans who were lucky enough to bag tickets for his Work In Progress Preview Show can look forward to a sneak preview of material for his forthcoming tour.

The Welsh comedy genius was a big hit when he brought his last show, Rhod Gilbert and the Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst, to Swindon last year, and sold out the Oasis.

His manic and often bizarre brand of observational humour, covering everything from the oddness of motorway service stations in the middle of the night to the perils of buying a duvet, has won him an army of fans.

That show was originally set for late 2010 but had to be postponed after Rhod came down with pneumonia. The tour proved to be his most successful yet, spawning a bestselling DVD.

He chose the name of the show as a challenge to a fan who would bring gifts themed on the titles of earlier performances.

Rhod, 43, is originally from Carmarthen. He studied at Exeter University and did a variety of jobs before becoming a full time comic nearly a decade ago.

He has won or been nominated for comedy awards almost every year since the start of his professional career a little over a decade ago.

His credits include Live At The Apollo, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You, The Royal Variety Performance, 8 out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You? and Ask Rhod Gilbert.

Tomorrow’s show is suitable for over-16s only, and Rhod’s website is www.rhodgilbertcomedian.com
