POP fans packed into the Oasis last night as chart-toppers McFly stopped off on their UK tour.

The band were as much in the limelight for their reality TV exploits as their music last year, with bass player Dougie Poynter scooping the title in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, and drummer Harry Judd crowned Strictly Come Dancing champion.

But it was all about the music last night, as more than 2,000 fans crammed into the leisure centre to listen to the band do what they do best.

The foursome stormed through their impressive back catalogue of hits, including Star Girl, Obviously and It’s All About You, as well as a medley of current hits by other artists.

Last year saw the band release the album Above The Noise, which spawned the band’s biggest single, Shine A Light, which sold more than 300,000 copies in the UK.

Joining Dougie and Harry in the band are Tom Fletcher on lead vocals, guitar and piano and Danny Jones on lead vocals and guitar.

McFly have notched up 18 Top 20 singles, seven reaching No 1 in the UK Singles Chart, and 15 making the Top 10.

The group have also performed for various charity projects, such as Comic Relief, Children in Need, Live 8 and Sport Relief.

The Adver was not allowed into the gig to take photos last night, but fans speaking after the event said the boys had performed even better than they were expecting.

Nicky Fitzgerald, 47, of Gorse Hill, said: “I like Strictly so I wanted to see Harry. They were better than I thought they were going to be. They had a bit of banter and did a lot of mucking about on the stage. They can play their instruments really well. My favourite song was It’s All About You.”

Also in the crowd was Rachel Huntley, 42, of Stratton, who said: “I’m a fan of I’m A Celebrity... and wanted to see Dougie. I thought they were really good. They performed their new song from their album, which was really good.”

Support acts Dive Bella Dive and Ivyrise warmed up the crowd before McFly came on stage performing Nowhere Left To Run.

Michelle Brown, 25, of Newbury, came to the gig with her 23-year-old sister, Victoria.

Michelle said: “There was really good material and they were really funny and had a laugh. Danny did a moonie and everyone screamed in excitement. Dougie was quite funnny and being a cheeky chappie. I liked it when they sang Obviously.”
