FUNDRAISERS across the town have continued to put their best feet forward to raise funds for Sport Relief.
Taking shoppers by surprise over at the Orbital in North Swindon were a group of Zumba dancers performing a charity flash mob for the annual event.
As shoppers hit the stores at 11.15am on Saturday, a group of brave ladies performed an impressive routine to Latin and international music while enjoying a fun workout.
Instructor Claudia Stroud, who takes classes at Common-weal School on Tuesdays and Thursdays, said: “We’ve never performed in the street before so all the ladies were nervous.
“I was a bit worried that not many people would turn up, but the turn-out has been excellent and everyone responded well.
“Everyone danced really well and some of the younger girls dressed up as grannies, complete with the false teeth, and they looked brilliant. They went to so much effort.
“We have been preparing for two weeks – it is all for Sport Relief and that is the main thing. We wanted to help out.”
Meanwhile, spare a thought for a group of Intel employees who spent the hottest weekend of the year so far attempting the longest continuous five-a-side football match.
The 16 workers kicked off at 9.30pm on Friday at New College Sports Hall and were hoping to play until Sunday evening in a bid to beat the current record which stands at 40 continuous hours.
However the event was called off on Saturday night after 32 hours due to injury.
The team have raised more than £2,966 for Sport Relief from the event, which they had been preparing for since January, securing a venue, equipment and kit, gaining volunteers, participating in practice events and drumming up publicity.
Participant Josh Love said: “We decided the best way to contribute a donation was to challenge ourselves both individually and collectively.
“The event was in aid of a great cause and Intel is contributing massively, providing funding for kit, and matching all donations by 20 per cent.
“The team are grateful for all the support and effort that everyone has provided.”
A sponsored marathon was held on a treadmill over at Sports Direct, one of the official sponsors of Sport Relief.
Staff completed one, three or six miles on a treadmill donated by Fit4Less at the front of the store, taking it in turns to complete a marathon per day over the weekend.
A bake sale and nail bar were set up outside the store and a raffle with a prize of a Sport Relief t-shirt signed by all the STFC players and Di Canio was held.
