ALMOST a hundred people packed out Commonweal School on Friday to show their support for the Old Town Festival.
The event, an evening of Roaring 1920s cabaret, was attended by mayor Ray Ballman, leader of Swindon Council Rod Bluh and the town Carnival Queen and Princess, Charlie Asprey and Lahni Burns.
The evening raised about £800 for the festival – which usually sees thousands flock to the annual event.
Sponsorship and fundraising manager for the Old Town Festival Alma Welby said: “The night was absolutely fantastic and it was full of cabaret and swing.
“The Old Town Festival committee were dressed in 20s’ attire and around 80 per cent of people were in costume. Those who attended said it was like going back to old school entertainment before televisions. It was wonderful.”
The night ended with a comedy performance from Jenny Stevenson and Robert Barrow, with John Marshall comparing the acts. Prizes were given for best Charleston dancer and best costume.
