JON Richardson plays a sellout show at the Wyvern Theatre on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, widely hailed as one of Britain’s best young comedy talents, has performed many times in Swindon, but has an even stronger local connection as he once lived here.

He was a student at Bristol University when he decided on a career in comedy, rapidly becoming a star of the local scene and impressing the judges in competitions for new comic hopefuls.

Later came Edinburgh Fringe appearances, successful tours and nominations for Chortle and Edinburgh Comedy awards.

Television and radio credits include Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Have I Got News for You, The Graham Norton Show and 8 out of 10 Cats. He’s been an 8 out of 10 Cats team captain since last year.

He has also made many radio appearances.

Sunday’s Wyvern appearance is part of his latest tour, called Funny Magnet, which has already taken him to Wales and Ireland and is set to include dates in locations as diverse as London’s Leicester Square Theatre and venues in Middlesbrough, Hereford, Evesham and Coventry.

Funny Magnet sees the comic discussing the everyday items which affect his outlook on life.

Previous shows have won rave reviews from critics up and down the country. One wrote: “The laughs are constant and from the belly as much as the brain.

“There are long, short, clever, silly, observational and surreal gags delivered in a likeable patter.”
