THE Bishop of Swindon is making a good recovery after breaking a collar bone in a bicycle crash in February.
The Rt Rev Dr Lee Rayfield, a member of the Swindon Road Club, was taken to hospital after coming off his bike in a race at the Winter Series at Ludgershall, near Salisbury. The 56-year-old has now resumed his public engagements after undergoing surgery at the Great Western Hospital.
He has spent the past few weeks at home and has been able to limit his duties thanks to help from colleagues.
He said: “It’s still a bit tricky to sleep and I’ve still got a bit of a limp on my left leg.
“I feel improvement, but I’m not going to be able to drive for several months because they put a plate in to repair my collar bone and they will take that out in about two months’ time.”
He said he had been touched by the kind care and concern he had received from people in the community and people across the churches of the Bristol diocese.
The crash took place when he was racing for Swindon Road Club against several other riders on a closed oval circuit.
He also suffered a bruised left hip.
