BY DAY it is a normal sports hall in the Oasis Leisure Centre, but for one night in June it will become a fabulous flurry of sequins, fake tans and smooth moves as Strictly comes to town.
Former Strictly Come Dancing champions Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev along with two of the show’s professionals – Kristina Rhiannoff and Robin Windsor – will be showcasing some of their most spectacular routines in the new show, Dance To The Music on June 29.
They will be dancing to the musical stylings of the Strictly Come Dancing house band, led by musical director Dave Arch – it is the first time that the entire 15-piece band have performed together live away from the Strictly studio.
The 23-date tour will reunite 2010 champions Kara and Artem once more on the dance floor as they perform some of their favourite dances from Strictly, as well as new routines in an intimate theatre setting – allowing audiences to get closer to the action than ever before.
Fans of the show are bound to be thrilled to see the band and the singers in the spotlight for their own unique performances, as well as having a chance to see the professional dancers up close and personal, while they dance to a selection of show-stopping classic and modern tunes.
The audience will be taken on a lively journey through dances ranging from an American Smooth to a Viennese Waltz – with some surprises along the way.
Jenny Marks, joint principal and full-time teacher at the Barn School of Dancing, in Wanborough, said Strictly has certainly had an impact on her pupils.
“It does definitely bring some people in. They see it and just think ‘we might as well have a go’,” she said.
“People who have never thought about it before will have a look and come along.”
Her favourite pair from the show are Anton du Beke and Erin Boag.
Tickets for the Swindon performance are priced at £45, £35, £28.50 and £19.50 and are subject to a £2.50 booking fee.
