A NEW bus shelter has been installed in Marlowe Way after requests from residents.
The bus stop had no shelter and, after the removal of the 54 service last year, it has been used by an increasing number of commuters.
Town council amenities committee chairman Coun Susan Doyle said: “As a greater number of people now use the bus stop at various times of the day we realised a shelter was needed.”
The town council is responsible for more than 30 bus shelters in the town and the new shelter, like a number of others, has been fitted with stainless steel mesh panels to cut down on graffiti.
Shelters previously used polycarbonate panels, which were constantly targeted.
Head groundsman Ralph White said: “It was becoming a major problem and we tried a variety of products to clean it up.
“However, none were very effective and, as an alternative, the stainless steel mesh panels were trialled.”
