RESIDENTS wanting to throw a right royal knees up in their street to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee must have applications in to Swindon Council by May 7.
The council is urging residents to get their applications in early so that they can be authorised in time ahead of the big day.
A Swindon Council spokesman said: “We’ve had about a dozen enquiries about street parties so far, but we have authorised just one so far, which is in Abbey Meads.
“We are asking that people apply in plenty of time.
“Street parties and fetes are a traditional part of community life, they are a simple way for us to get to know our neighbours and meet members of our community.
“We want to make it easier for you to hold these sorts of local events successfully.”
In April last year, dozens of parties were held across Swindon and nearby villages including Wanborough and Wroughton to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
This year, the council have issued a guidance form detailing all the common hazards involved in street parties and have waived all charges.
Residents are urged to give consideration to the nature of the road, whether or not it is a through route or a bus route and if traffic needs to be redirected.
All fellow residents and any businesses that may be affected by the road closures should be consulted The council also recommends that parties should start and finish at around 10am and 11pm and suggest that if you need any further advice or have any concerns regarding road closures for street parties contact the Street Works Team on 01793 466380 or email streetworks@swindon.gov.uk
