FAMILIES in Royal Wootton Bassett look set for a second Royal celebration just months after the first.
In October last year, the small market town was bestowed with the second only Royal prefix in 100 years to mark the town’s efforts with the repatriation of fallen servicemen.
Now, wheels are in motion for a second Royal knees up as a large street party is being planned to mark the big day.
The town council are planning to close the High Street for the day and hold a traditional street party for all residents - from food stalls, entertainment and a hog roast.
The proposal is to close the High Street from 11am until 9pm on June 4 with the event itself taking place from 2pm until 8pm.
A carnival float is also being lined up to advertise the event and leaflets will be distributed to homeowners in the coming months with a full breakdown of what they can expect.
A spokesman for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council said: “A team of volunteers have formed the Diamond Jubilee Committee, with the aim of bringing the community of Royal Wootton Bassett together for a Giant High Street Party.
“This will take place on the afternoon and evening of Bank Holiday Monday, June 4, 2012.
“The committee would like to have community groups and organisations providing free entertainment and workshops at this event.
“If you are part of a group that would like to play a part in this historic community event please contact the committee via Royal Wootton Bassett Town Council.”
The town council are also asking residents who have pictures or copies of press articles from the Silver Jubilee celebrations in the town back in 1977.
They are hoping these will form part of Diamond Jubilee exhibition.
Anyone with any images or articles is asked to contact councillor Sue Hughes on 01793 250228 or by email on: sue@nichughes.plus.com
