A GROUP of IT administrators from Swindon will be taking part in a Wiltshire charity walk with a difference this summer.
Ten members of the information and system services team at RCUK Shared Services Centre will trek between seven of the county’s famous white horses in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The group will cover 55 miles on the weekend of July 7-8, with around 29 miles on the first day and 25 on the second as they look to raise more than £1,000 for the Devizes-based service.
Heather Large, executive PA to chief information officer Richard Edwards, said: “It’s a worthy cause that is entirely dependent on public support and needs to raise money just to keep going. You never know, you may need it at some point in life.”
The group will join other walkers in setting out from the air ambulance headquarters, in Devizes, at 7.30am on July 7 before going to the first port of call – the Alton Barnes white horse.
Heather knows how tired the team may feeling by the end, having taken part in the event three years ago.
“I enjoyed it but I ended up with serious shin splints. You have to take a picnic lunch and plenty of fluid, but they provide water at various stopping points,” she said.
As well as Heather and Richard, the RCUK SSC team features Chetan Kuber, Daniel Lane, Andrew Jordan, Steve Tomlin, Akhil Narayanan Nair, Mike Hornby, Krishna Karri and Nick Price.
Those who do not fancy the full 55 miles can join one-day challenges over half the distance of each route. There is also a seven-mile family challenge on July 8.
