“They look like geography teachers; they play like angels!”
So said one critic of the flamboyant Feast of Fiddles, while another described them as simply “the best fiddle players of a generation”.
The fiddling sextet are in Marlborough tonight, fielding some of the most legendary names in folk, plus a new addition. Tickets for the 8pm show are £17.
The collective features Fairport Convention’s Chris Leslie, Steeleye Span’s Peter Knight, Bully Wee Band’s Ian Cutler and ex-Battlefield Band’s Brian McNeill, joining forces with Garry Blakeley (Band of Two) and Tom Leary (John B Spencer Trio/Albion Morris).
The “backing band” is led by Hugh Crabtree on accordion and folk-rock drummer Dave Mattacks. New kid on the block, bringing sax and keyboards, is Alan Whetton, who has played with everyone from Dexy’s Midnight Runners to Cliff Richard.
