THE names Roland Gift, Wang Chung and Jimmy Somerville might not mean much to anyone outside the 35-45 age bracket, but for those of us who were teenagers in the 1980s their names were legendary and their faces graced our bedroom walls.
These three icons of the decade are among the 20-plus acts lined up for this year’s Rewind Festival, down the M4 in Henley-on-Thames, where 80s music and fashions have been revived every summer for the past four years.
This year’s Rewind – The 80s Music Festival takes place from August 17 to 19 at Temple Island Meadows, Henley-on-Thames.
The weekend features an incredible line-up for those who lived and loved the 80s, including giants such as Tony Hadley, Adam Ant and Marc Almond. Other highlights are Kool & The Gang, OMD, The Christians, Heather Small and The Bangles, as well as a rare performance from hip-hop king Grandmaster Flash and a set from the reformed original line-up of Five Star.
In addition to the unforgettable 80s soundtrack, Rewind also features silent discos and live karaoke bars, along with glamping (glamorous camping) options. Many of the festival goers dress in 80s fashions, adding to the party atmosphere.
There will also be luxury loos (for those who just can’t slum it!), a comedy bar, fireworks displays after the Saturday and Sunday gigs, a funfair, a solar-powered cinema and a special zone for children with circus workshops and entertainment.
Tickets are selling fast, so you need to get a move on if you want to go along.
Day tickets are £50 for adults and £25 for children (aged three to 12), while weekend tickets are £95 and £47.50. Weekend tickets with camping are £110 and £55.
