A CHARITY fundraiser is getting in the swing to reach his goal of raising £10,000 for Prospect Hospice.

Steve Jordan, 29, of North Swindon, set himself the challenge of raising the cash in one year for the Wroughton-based hospice.

Steve’s charity quest had originally started out as an attempt to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro, but when he injured his ankles and could not go he said he would raise the money through a series of events.

He originally aimed to raise £10,000 by the end of 2011, but later decided to aim for May 14 this year – exactly a year after he held his first fundraiser.

Steve is holding a golf day on April 19 at Carswell Golf and Country Club, with entry slashed from £260 per team to £195.

He said: “It is the cheapest golf day you will be able to get and it is a great day to raise money for a great cause.

“We are hoping it will raise around £2,500 for the hospice, which will be a big step to reaching the total of £10,000.

“I’ve absolutely loved the year though, it isn’t one of those things that you can do every minute of the day, but it is great to know you are helping the hospice – you never know when you might need their services.

“I could need them next week and if people aren’t raising money for them, they won’t be there.”

A 10k golf challenge is being backed by Urban 18, the Swindon and Cirencester golf and lifestyle fashion stores.

Teams of four will be able to participate in the 18 hole team challenge, plus beat the Urban 18/UKKO tour professional, longest drive, nearest the pin, Mulligans and Two’s Sweep, each costing £10 per team, with all fees donated to Prospect Hospice.

Bacon rolls and coffee will be served on arrival, and the cost includes an evening meal.

Mela Durston, challenge and event fundraiser at Prospect Hospice, said: “Steve has decided to raise £10,000 for the hospice and he is about half way there – we are really hopeful with the next couple of events he will reach his target.

“It is massive what he is doing for us, the hospice needs £5m a year to run and 70 per cent of that is raised thanks to the efforts of people like Steve, so we are incredibly grateful.”
