SWINDON Council has announced that the Federation of Ferndale Primary and Haydon Wick Primary will result in just one governing body.

This means governors who wish to continue need to be re-appointed or elected onto the new federated governing body.

A total of three new Local Authority governors are required and anyone who is interested is invited to put themselves forward.

Anyone who would like to be nominated for one of these schools should contact a Haydon Wick ward councillor, who will be obliged to consult with the school’s chairman of governors before agreeing the appointment.

Coun David Renard (Con, Haydon Wick) said: “I have been a governor at Haydonleigh Primary School for more than 11 years now.

“It is a fantastic school to be involved with, and has been rated outstanding by Ofsted and is second in the Swindon performance league tables.

“I was also a governor of Isambard Community School for the first five years of the shadow governing body’s existence and would recommend this as an excellent way to put something back into the community.

“It is rewarding to be involved in the provision of our children’s education and I would encourage anyone who wants to make a difference to the next generation to put themselves forward. Full training will be given by the Governor Support Service.”

Coun Rex Barnett (Con, Haydon Wick) said: “I am a governor at Greenmeadow school and can thoroughly recommend it.

“It is fulfiling and a great way to give something back to the community.”
