On a wet Wednesday in March SWAP members, the neighbourhood wardens, community police officers, Jonathan Wilshaw (Great Western Forest) and some students from Dorcan Academy and Churchfields Academy went out onto the Marlowe Avenue end of Buckhurst Recreation Field and planted a fruit and nut copse of young trees. The mood was cheerful despite the weather and we all worked together to improve the local environment with trees obtained through the Big Tree grant from the Forestry Commission. Our thanks go to all those who participated and to the committee of the Buckhurst Park Community Centre for allowing us to provide some much needed refreshments afterwards. Some larger trees were also planted later in the week by Swindon Commercial Services. Protection has been put up around the trees and we hope that these efforts will enable present and future residents to enjoy the improved environment that these trees will hopefully provide.
