Pull on your platforms, as it’s time to boogie on down to the latest musical by Swindon’s Empire Theatre.

A cast of more than 30 people, aged from 11 to 35, have been rehearsing every day for the past fortnight for Boogie Nights – The 70s Musical.

From tonight until Saturday, the company will be performing at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre.

Pollyann Tanner is the director and choreographer of the show. She said: “We want all the ladies singing I Will Survive. We want lots of audience participation as it is all music we know and love, like If You Don’t Know Me By Now, Yesterday Once More, We Are Family, Celebration, YMCA, Disco Inferno and, of course, Boogie Wonderland. Prepare to party.”

The Wyvern will be turned into a disco on the night, with Skywalker’s Disco playing before the show, in the interval and afterwards, creating a real 1970s atmosphere.

Pollyann said: “It would be lovely if everyone would dress up in 70s gear and boogie in the aisles.”

The musical is set around Roddy O’Neil and tells the story of his trials and tribulations as he aspires to become a rock star.

Pollyann said: “I believe it is a biography of Shane Ritchie, who wrote it. Shane played the part of Roddy when it was running in London but we have a new boy to the company, Dean Kline, as our Roddy. He is doing a really good job.”

Dean, 20, is an American IT consultant who moved to this country with his family a few years ago. He used to perform in the States but, until now, had not taken up performing over here.

“He came to support his sister who auditioned and thought he might as well have a go,” said Pollyann. “His mum was outside crying with happiness when she heard him sing for the first time in 10 years.”

Tickets to see Boogie Nights are £11 from 01793 524481.
