HOLIDAY makers are being told it is safe to travel to Indonesia after a tsunami warning was lifted on Wednesday.
Five people were killed and a child critically injured when two powerful earthquakes struck off the coast of northern Indonesia on Wednesday, sparking fears of a tsunami.
Holiday companies across Swindon have, however, said that it is safe to travel to the country and that they have set guidelines in place in the event of such emergencies.
Katie Goddard, branch manager at the Thomas Cook store, in Regent Street, said: “All Tsunami warnings following yesterday's earthquake have now been lifted. However, in the event of an event like this, our customer teams closely monitor the situation and take guidance from the Foreign Commonwealth Office to ensure that our guests and colleagues in affected areas are kept up to date with local advice and offered the appropriate help in resort.
“Similarly for customers due to travel, our customer teams would be in touch with them to discuss their travel options if they were impacted by such an event.”
