PEOPLE across Swindon are being invited to head down into the woods for Swindon Youth Theatre’s latest production.

The group, whose members are aged between seven and 11, are performing Hansel and Gretel at the Wyvern Theatre today and tomorrow.

Director Laura Barnes said: “This familiar and seemingly innocent tale of good versus evil is here re-told with all the magic of theatre and slowly but surely we have teased out the true dark heart of Hansel and Gretel.”

Sixteen of the youth theatre’s youngest members were cast in this retelling of the tale. With only eight days’ rehearsal, it has been a fast and furious process creating characters and making the words come alive.

Older members acted as mentors throughout the project, helping with the development of the play and supporting the young actors.

The performances take place in Studio One at 5pm today and at 1pm and 5pm tomorrow. Tickets for the final performance have almost sold out.

Tickets cost £6 and £5 and are available by calling the Wyvern Theatre box office on 01793 524481.
