A 30-YEAR-OLD man from Swindon is being treated for serious burns after a fire on a boat which left another man dead.
The incident happened at 6.20am yesterday on the River Avon close to Pulteney Bridge, where the cabin cruiser was moored.
Avon and Somerset Police said a 40-year-old man had died at the scene. The other man was taken to the Royal United Hospital for treatment to burns and the effects of smoke inhalation.
Two fire engines from Bath, as well as the fire service rescue boat were sent to the scene.
On arrival they found the wheelhouse area at the rear of the boat engulfed in flames.
The boat has been removed by fire investigators and they are working to find out the cause of the blaze. It is understood that the men had only recently bought the boat, and had moored up in Bath ready for a night out. Bath City Boat Trips commercial director Tony Murphy said: “This is a real tragedy." The river was due to be reopened later today.
