UNION Jacks will be flying in a street in Taw Hill when the Queen celebrates her diamond jubilee.

Residents in Cranborne Chase are hoping to see more than 60 people at the ticketed street party on June 3.

The event, which is from 2pm, will include a disco, a tug of war and fancy dress and the list of activities is still growing.

One of the organisers, Sylvia Dowling, said: “I moved to Cranborne Chase from London in 2007. Since I have lived here I haven’t known anyone.

“It is such a lovely area and we have got the Tawny Owl in walking distance. I thought it would be good if we could get to know our neighbours so I started the ball rolling.

“We are hoping this will lead on to other things. We have had a good response from people living here.”

The group is looking for sponsorship for their celebrations and they are urging anyone who can donate or businesses who could sponsor them to get in touch. There will also be jubilee celebrations at Buckhurst Park Community Centre on June 6.

The event, which is organised by the community centre and Swindon Walcot and Parks Group, will include a funfair, throw a welly competition, erect a tent race, stalls, facepainting and a beat the goalie competition.
