SWINDON’S MPs have pledged to support the families in our Help Us Walk campaign until they are given proper answers from NHS Swindon.
Swindon South MP Robert Buckland and North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson, both have families in their remit affected by the PCT’s decision not to fund selective dorsal rhizotomy operations for their children.
They have pledged to do what they can to help arrange a meeting with themselves, the families of Alycia Ellis from Abbey Meads, Robbie Davies of Stratton, Jack Pike from Penhill and Corey Cummings from Coate, and NHS Swindon Chief Executive Jan Stubbings.
Mr Buckland said: “I am concerned that the families are not being given proper reasons about the decisions.
“Putting myself in their shoes, I would want to be made aware of any reasons as to why decisions are being made.
“I would be more than happy, together with Justin, to help bring together a meeting between the families and the PCT. I think at the very least they deserve an explanation and a way forward.
“The importance of good communication and helping people understand decisions is essential, bearing in mind the challenges already facing families with children who have disabilities, such as cerebral palsy.
Mr Tomlinson said: “We need to be really practical here as it is really important that we try and find a way that these children can take advantage of the potential opportunity that has been brought forward.
“Myself and Robert Buckland would be very happy to organise a meeting with the families and the PCT to see if we can find a constructive way forward.”
