The Magnets Wyvern Theatre, Swindon PARDON the pun, but you can't help but be attracted to The Magnets.
Slick, sexy, skilful, seductive... your eyes are drawn to each one of the six-piece a cappella group in turn as you try to work out just how on earth the sound resonating from the stage can be made without a single instrument or backing track.
We've all seen harmonising before, but this takes things to another level, due in no small part to beatboxer Andy Frost, who can produce all the sounds of the drumkit using just his voicebox.
He has to work phenomenally hard to back every single one of The Magnets' tracks with barely a pause for breathe, dancing too at times. His jaw-dropping solo slot was one of the highlights of a show which featured clever covers of Lady Gaga's Pokerface, Adele's Rolling In The Deep and and a bossanova (yep, that's right) of Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer.
You might have seen The Magnets on that famous T-Mobile ad on TV, the one in the airport arrivals lounge where the crowd breaks into song. If they ever come back to Swindon, don't miss the chance to see them live. They truly have to be seen - or heard - to be believed. MICHELLE TOMPKINS
