LOCKOUT (15)

Starring Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Peter Stormare. Directors: Stephen St Leger, James Mather.

The year is 2079 and hard-bitten CIA agent Snow (Pearce) is caught in the crossfire of an undercover mission.

Snow’s superior is killed and the agent is convicted of the murder, which carries a sentence of 30 years in stasis in the experimental maximum security prison MS One. Before Snow can slip into artificial slumber, trouble erupts on the orbiting prison.

Lockout is a daft science fiction thriller, a dim-witted affair that is all brawn and no brains, and with an explosive finale that manages to defy both the laws of logic and gravity. 4/10 GONE (15) Starring Amanda Seyfried, Emily Wickersham. Director: Heitor Dhalia.

Littered with enough red herrings to exceed European fishing quotas, Gone is a serpentine thriller about an emotionally scarred woman who is doubted by everyone around her.

It’s a psychological saga about a terrigying abduction that returns to haunt the victim one year after the ordeal.

Gone is a tepid genre piece undone by a script that heaps one preposterous contrivance atop another.

Seyfried is sympathetic as a woman on the verge of a breakdown, and she delivers a better performance than this predictable film deserves. 5/10
