PUPILS at Wanborough Primary school are celebrating after being crowned champions of a countywide road safety quiz.
The quiz, which took place at the Ellendune Centre, in Wroughton, featured student representatives from 13 of the town’s primary schools.
Margaret Tester, who is road safety manager at Swindon Council, believes these events are important for everyone that takes part. “This is a good opportunity to test the children’s skills and to raise awareness about the issue of road safety,” she said.
In Swindon, road traffic accidents are the biggest cause of accidental death for 12 to 16-year-olds.
Teens that are distracted while crossing roads can lead to fatal consequences and it is this reason why the quizzes are still being held more that 30 years after the first.
Wanborough Primary School was awarded a trophy and a selection of vouchers for coming first. Lethbridge Primary School and Peatmoor Community Primary School were tied for second place and King William Street came in third.
