TOWN’S legendary manager Lou Macari will make a return to the County Ground dugout as a growing list of stars pledge to play in a charity match next week.
The hero of Swindon Town’s charge up the Football League ladder in the late 1980s will be taking on the task of leading the Wiltshire Air Ambulance team against a Paolo Di Canio XI.
Pundits and fans have drawn parallels between the two men and their Town sides, and on Wednesday they will be able to see them go head-to-head .
Joining them will be former Robin and Sky TV commentator Chris Kamara, his Goal on Sunday co-presenter Ben Shepherd, ex-Spurs star Darren Anderton and Reds’ fans’ favourites Paul Hunt and Christian Roberts.
Current captain Paul Caddis will now be Macari’s assistant. Di Canio is expected to call in a few favours and more names will be announced in the lead up to the game.
Organisers said they expected to sell around 1,000 tickets for the event next Wednesday, which kicks off at 7pm, and all proceeds will go to the WAA. Head of fundraising for WAA, Caroline Corrigan, said: “Tickets are selling well with the anticipation building ahead of what should be a memorable night at The County Ground. Paolo is looking forward to playing in front of his home crowd, who have supported him so well throughout the season.”
Adult tickets for the charity match are just £5, while concessions are £3. Fans can buy tickets from the STFC Box Office online from www.swindontownfc.co.uk or call the STFC Box Office on 0871 876 1993. Hospitality packages are still available for the game, priced at £25 per person. Email adam@swindontownfc.co.uk.
Meanwhile, season ticket holders have already snapped up 1,500 tickets to the club’s end of season celebration, headlined by the Lightning Seeds, at the County Ground. Tickets, which are already on sale to season ticket holders, are free for anyone who has a season ticket for 2011/12 2012/13, they can buy one additional ticket for £5.
Tickets go on general sale tomorrow after the Port Vale match and cost £5 for non-season ticket holders who present a Wembley stub or their Port Vale ticket, and £10 for general sales. Tickets are available in person from the STFC Box Office or via phone on 0871 876 1993.
