SHOP assistant Jamie Reid will celebrate turning 21 by taking part in a daredevil parachute jump and raising money for charity at the same time.

The jump, which was a birthday present from Jamie’s mother in March, also provided him with the perfect fundraising opportunity.

Jamie, who works at the Co-op Store in Eldene, hopes to raise money for a new outdoor area at nearby Eldene Pre-School.

This is not the first time he has given his support, as his shop has raised money for the school before.

Although he has never flown before, Jamie admitted he is looking for an adventure.

In the future he hopes to go travelling and swim with sharks.

Jamie’s mother booked the jump after he told her he was thinking of booking it himself.

She will be there with friends and family to watch him on the day.

“I’m a bit scared because I’m jumping on my own,” Jamie said.

“But as long as I don’t break my leg it should be good fun. It’s a memorable experience, something that I won’t forget.”

Staff at the Co-op Store have all sponsored Jamie.

The Pre-School, which caters for 70 children aged two to four, has just put up a new canopy and needs funds to develop the surrounding area.

Pre-school manager Tina Azzopardi said she was excited to hear what Jamie was planning and said they needed to raise as much money as they could.

She said: “He approached us and said he would like to help. We were just so thrilled that he thought of us.

“We take the children to the shop every day for snacks, so we are well known in the community.”

Jamie’s jump will take place today at Redlands Airfield, Wanborough.
