TEENAGE Dirtbags Wheatus will be at the MECA next month.

The group will be appearing on June 2 and the concert is expected to be a sell-out.

Wheatus saw their first and largest hit, Teenage Dirtbag, reach number two in the UK charts and bag them a legion of fans.

Their second single, A Little Respect, peaked at number three.

MECA owner Justin Britchford said: “Wheatus are one of those infectious bands that have had hits that once you start singing you cannot stop. Coming over to Swindon from the States as part of their tour is great for us and the town”.

Supporting Wheatus are three artists – Math the Band, an American electronic band, Corn Mo, a Brooklyn-based musician, who plays the accordion and keyboards, and Slagerij, a ska-punk act from Swindon.

“It is great to be able to give another local band a support slot as that was something that we always wanted to happen when we got involved in the MECA, to ensure the local scene gets involved and is given opportunities,” said Justin.

Tickets are £12 from the MECA on 01793 495527, from the box office (open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am- 4pm Saturday), or at swindontickets.co.uk.
